Asus A7N8X2.0 ACPI Bios/ AMD Athlon XP 1250 MHz/ 512 Ram/ XP/ 2 seperate hard drives/ seperate DVD and CD players/ Central cooling fan does not work
So I have recently been working on what looks to be about a 6 year old assembled computer. When I first got it, I could not get the thing to boot up, it would try and go and then just fail to boot the motherboard after about 5 seconds. Then after fooling around with the power and reset buttons enough I finally got the thing to boot. When I did I got the following errors: Floppy Disk failed(40) (There is no floppy disk installed), and CMOS checksum error. I was able to boot windows successfully by pressing F1 and went into find more detail about these problems. However, after doing this I went to restart and sure enough it came to a halt. I manually took the power off and tried to startup but this time I got the error that the CPU speed was off and could not advance other than the bios. When I went to change the settings and save, it would once again halt (cpu fan running and motherboard light on, no monitor or action taking place). I thought that it might be the battery dying so I replaced that and reset the CMOS to default. Still its completely hit or miss whether the motherboard will load, and what type of errors I will get. Mostly it just stalls and I hear a beep or so (don’t hear well enough to determine whether they are short, long, etc). I’m not quite sure what to do from here if I can’t even get the thing to turn on consistently. I figured I would try and update the bios and possibly reinstall the OS but it seems there is a larger problem happening. Does anyone have any idea or have encountered anything like this before?
